How to Have an Intentional Valentine’s Day with Your Kids

January 14, 2020

Valentine’s Day is a month away! And one of my favorite ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day with my kids is to write 14 “love notes” with 14 “surprises” from February 1st to February 14th.

This is a tradition that started YEARS ago when they were 3, 4, 5 and 6 and now I have two more kids and they are all 1, 3, 6, 8, 9, and almost 11. They love this tradition so much and every year towards the end of January, they ask if we are doing it again.

Here is what you need to make this Valentine’s Day intentional and fun:

1 Mailbox for each kids (there are 98 cents at Walmart!)

Sticky Notes/Valentines Tags

Cheap Valentines “trinkets” (bouncy balls, toy dinosaurs, tattoos, yo-yo’s, etc.) These can be found at Target, Walmart, Micheals, Hobby Lobby and more. I normally buy them in a pack of 4 or 6 for $1-$3 each.

Normally, towards the end of January, I spend one afternoon and prep all of the trinkets for each day. Here are some examples of things I would write for each day on each trinket:

Bouncy Ball- “Adelyn, you make my heart BOUNCE up and down with joy! I love you so much.” Love, Mom

Cheap Airplane- “Colton, my love for you SOARS.” Love, Mom

Tiny bag of slime- “Caden, my love for you OOZES like slime.” Love, Mom

Stickers- “Asher, I am STUCK on you.” Love, Mom

Toy Dinosaur- “Hudson, I think you are DYNO-mite!” Love, Mom

Plastic Car- “Haddon, My heart RACES for you.”

Let me also add, yes, I know this is cheesy. And yes, most of these trinkets will be played with for a short time and most likely thrown in the trash (because momma doesn’t love clutter), but they LOVE THIS. They feel loved. They feel treasured. They feel seen. They look forward to this. My big kids are kind of getting too big for this, but they still love it. I don’t know how many more years they will love it, but we will keep on doing it until then.

There are 16 days left in January and that will give you plenty of time to run by the store, pick up the mailboxes and trinkets and prep them and have them ready for each day.

If you do this, I would love to see what ideas you have so make sure you tag me on Instagram ( so I can see it!
